The Cousins Grimm
Secondly, Jillian Louis is destined for stardom……. This is a girl who has talent, honesty, vulnerability,
charisma and tons of humor that is just waiting to erupt on Broadway.

"Louis can belt beguilingly but also employs a lovely mix that makes moments like her quiet reprise of "I
Talk to the Trees" pure pleasure. Her acting is simple and direct, finding unexpected emotional range in
this uneducated but goodhearted country girl."

Backstage: Performances to Remember
January 04, 2008
As the year draws to a close, Back Stage East critics look back at the shows they reviewed in these
pages to choose the most memorable acting performances of 2007.
Jillian Louis
Irene (in Concert)
Jillian Louis' title-role performance in Musicals Tonight!'s Irene remains memorable because of what it
made us forget. Louis' acting was so convincing that when she sang the score's familiar standards, it
was like we'd never heard those songs before.

The Piper
Christiane Noll is marvelous as a whore with a heart of gold turned boarding-house proprietor. Her
oompah-pah number…and a lush, poignant duet with the equally wonderful Jillian Louis, who plays her
crippled daughter, are highlights.

Nancy Ellen Shore
Wilder…. is beautifully portrayed by Jillian Louis capturing the insecurities, longings and humor of the girl.
I see great things ahead for this actress whose voice is as clear as the Irish Whistle she mimes playing
as an expert Ben Gunnery creates the actual sounds.

Irene
The production is propelled by Jillian Louis' phenomenal performance as Irene O'Dare, a sharp-minded,
gutsy Irish girl from Ninth Avenue who falls in love with Donald Marshall III, a wealthy Long Islander.
Louis is so dramatically honest in acting her songs that she makes such standards as "Alice Blue
Gown," "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows," and "You Made Me Love You" feel like songs we've never
heard before.

Lisa Jo Sagolla
Leading the pack is Jillian Louis, who gives a gem of a performance in the title role. Feisty and
determined, she shades the role with delicate, appealing, and original comic touches….. Her voice and
perky presentation often suggest a young Judy Garland, especially her simple, unaffected, and
exceedingly vulnerable (and heartbreaking) rendition of the standard "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows."

Wizard of Oz
At the show's center is Jillian Louis's utterly sincere Dorothy. Not only does Louis sing beautifully—her
bluesy "Over the Rainbow," accompanied by keyboard and guitar, is heartbreaking, unique and
unfettered by affectation….Don't try this at home—it's a lot harder than it looks, and already done to
perfection.

The Dinosaur Musical
The Reales have a way with clever theater songs…delivered with consummate style by a masterful
ensemble, in which Donna Migliaccio, Jillian Louis…Ben Dibble and Joshua Lamon especially shine.

Also delightful is Jillian Louis whose number, "I Don't Think You Really Want to Eat Me," more than any
other song in the show has the clever word play that made Frog and Toad so much fun.

Gemini, the Musical
As the preppy school friends, Jillian Louis and Jeremiah B. Downes certainly look right; Louis looks like
a petite Gwyneth Paltrow.

Wizard of Oz
Jillian Louis is a gifted vocalist who is excellent as the young, innocent Dorothy. Her rich voice, wide-
eyed enthusiasm and feisty farm-girl presence are reminiscent of Judy Garland in quality and
interpretation.
